In 2023, the WA State Government announced the opening of a $10.3 million expansion at Muresk Institute, marking a new era of training at Muresk. The centrepiece of this expansion is the new Agricultural Machinery Training Centre (AMTC).
This includes new workshops, classrooms, information technology laboratories and facilities designed to make sure students are learning in a state-of-the-art environment.
The project was managed by the WA Department of Training and Workforce Development, in partnership with the WA Department of Finance.
Regional WA commercial builder ACorp Construction Pty Ltd carried out the majority of construction.
Take a look at this timelapse video of the AMTC construction to see how it all came together.
Apprentices completing the Certificate III in Agricultural Mechanical Technology at Muresk, through Central Regional TAFE, are the first to train in the AMTC's new workshops.
Muresk and Central Regional TAFE worked closely with WA's agricultural industry in developing the apprenticeship to help meet demand for skilled technicians and mechanics.
Once trained, these qualified technicians will service all types of agricultural machinery across WA's broadacre farming industry with trade skills for mechanical, electrical, hydraulic operations, precision equipment and braking systems.
As part of the expansion, the State Government delivered two state-of-the-art combine harvester simulators and a range of other agricultural machinery options, offering a realistic farming environment.
This enables students to practice and apply the skills and knowledge gained through their training in a safe yet ‘real life’ farming environment.
Local artist Nic Compton created a suite of hand-carved sculptural artworks for our new training facilities. The artworks reflect Muresk's role as a skills hub for modern agriculture in supporting the best industry driven training opportunities.
‘Agrisculpture’ consists of two works; a striking monolithic work built from two large jarrah slabs carved with intricate detail, and a jarrah bench incorporating the cogs of industrial farming machinery and the furrows of cultivation. Some of the incredible imagery featured in the carvings include an abstract reference to space technology, a representation of the life cycle of plants, and an aerial view of the Muresk campus.
Together, these pieces bring a new dimension to the external social place and an area where students and staff can sit and reflect.
